Ilika targets commercial traction through Brompton e-bike battery programme

Ilika Plc

Ilika has moved its solid-state battery technology into a more commercially relevant stage with a £214,000 development programme alongside Brompton Bicycles. The 12-month project will test Ilika’s 10Ah Goliath batteries in packs for Brompton’s next generation of electric folding bikes, with battery pack production and bike trials planned for mid-2027 if development targets are met.

This is not a large contract, but it is a practical test of whether Ilika’s technology can perform in a real product with a recognised manufacturer. That matters because battery companies need more than technical promise. They need proof that customers can use the product in applications where performance, safety and design constraints all matter.

Folding e-bikes are highly sensitive to battery size, weight and safety, so they provide a useful test case for Goliath. If Ilika’s cells can help reduce weight while maintaining safety and energy performance, that strengthens the company’s case in mobility markets where those factors directly affect product appeal and regulatory acceptance.

Concerns around battery fires have become harder to ignore across the e-bike market, creating a clearer commercial opening for technologies that can offer a safer alternative. Ilika is using this programme to show that solid-state batteries are not simply an improvement in theory, but a possible answer to a visible market problem.

Ilika plc (LON:IKA) is a pioneer in solid state battery technology enabling solutions for applications in Industrial IoT, MedTech, Electric Vehicles and Consumer Electronics.
